Jason Malone, owner and brewmaster was born and raised in the Grayling area. Jason has been brewing since 2009… and rocking his beard since 2001. He started brewing with a gas system in his garage before upgrading to an 11-tap electric system in his basement. After brewing for weddings and hosting beer bashes, it was time to open his own brewery…

Let’s cheers to THAT!

Rolling Oak Brewing Co. is housed in Grayling’s historic ice house. The century old building originally stored ice from Lake Margrethe, which was packed in sawdust and loaded on refrigerated railcars. At the time, the building’s cool temperatures made the ice house a natural fit for storing beer for the townspeople. So you could say we’re toasting our forefathers with every pint.

Rolling Oak purchased the vacant ice house in 2014 and began a multi-year construction effort, going to great lengths to retain the building’s historic character. The wallboards were repurposed from the original ice house, and the light fixtures were salvaged from an old church in Cheboygan. Jason handcrafted the tables using old electrical spools, and the bar is milled from oak from Higgins Lake. Local artist Nancy Hatfield did the work on the ‘windows’ in the lounge area, and Cheryl (Stephan) Lowes engraved the mugs.

*Rolling Oak Brewing Co. does not endorse the wasteful pouring out of beer. This is just an expression. Aim for your mouth.
